Organized Bill Management
Called in by my client’s financial advisor, I arrived to a sea of bills on
every surface of the home office, and my job was to make sense of it, pay the bills, and restore order. My client had been in the hospital for a couple of months and felt overwhelmed by the paperwork. Working closely with my client to determine his interest and ability in using the internet, I set up a bill-management system. There were health-insurance matters to arrange, tax documents to organize, accounts to bring up to date, and a bank recovery process of thousands of dollars in credit card fraud.
Organized Office & Paperwork
Client’s home office was completely filled with boxes from a move several months before, and she needed the motivation, commitment, and oversight to unpack and organize the contents of the boxes. Together we unpacked the mostly old paperwork and set up systems for organizing and managing current work and personal paperwork. After clearing up the space, we set up the office, safely packed up an art installation piece, and polished off the language and some formatting on her new website. I also showed her how to set up online bill paying, which she then proceeded to use, to ensure she received and paid her bills in a timely fashion.
Organized Paperwork & Bills
Client was living alternately in her own home and her mother’s, and her boxed-up
and disorganized paperwork led to bills going unpaid. Multiple interruptions
and travel impeded her progress in unpacking and addressing her paperwork,
leaving her feeling overwhelmed. We brainstormed ideas that would help her sort
through her boxes and how to just get started. Almost immediately we
began to set up a bill-management system, and to make it easy to
reference later, I taught her a few tricks to use with her internet browser to organize her links and make
it easier for her to be productive online. We worked together
Organized Bill Maintenance
Client’s aging mother was no longer able to manage her own bills and paperwork, and my client was feeling unable to manage this while working full time and raising a child. I set up bill-paying and paper-filing systems, and managed them on site and remotely during regular visits over a three-year period. The scope of work involved overseeing health-care benefits, managing tax documentation, investment reports, overseeing household and home-care purchasing, and other related financial matters. I assembled all the tax documentation annually for both my client's household and for her mother.
The living room of this client’s home was almost entirely filled with boxes, and my client wanted to be able to use the space for entertaining guests, and she wanted to find specific contents in one of the boxes. She felt overwhelmed to go through them on her own, and didn’t want to exacerbate the mess. We went through every box, disposing of almost everything, making order of what remained, and assembling a photo album. In addition, we thinned out the contents of her closet and created orderly groupings of all of her hanging and folded clothing. Finally, I worked with the client’s partner to organize the tools in their carriage house, making it easy for them to access what they need.
Hired to assist with setting up a new home after most of the unpacking had been completed, I focused on
designing the organizing systems for a pantry and a utility closet. With my efforts, the pantry used up only a fraction of the room adjacent to the kitchen, freeing up enough space for a small eating table. The new storage systems contain related items in ways that are orderly and easy to find. I also reconfigured and maximized the newly installed shelving systems in the master bedroom’s walk-in closet to make the most of the space and ensure easy access to everything. It now feels more spacious and less crowded. Throughout the home I made some furniture adjustments and helped my client choose furniture to set aside for give-away.
On behalf of a railroad client, developed a pro forma to depict the forthcoming years based on previous performance and additional marketing programs. This was a large organizational task, pulling financial data from multiple railroad companies. A second project entailed itemizing and unifying railcar and equipment data for business valuation.
I've worked closely for a few years with a
yarn-dyeing company in New England. They have created dozens of stunning multi-colored yarns and developed some innovative yarns, but the website was outdated, needed improved navigability, and a better way to view these special yarns. Using a basic layout, I re-organized the website copy, set up very simple navigation on every page, made a user-friendly list of retail shops, and set up image-viewing options that better showcase the yarns.
For a small mediation and communications-training business I overhauled their website. This required creating a new layout, organizing and streamlining the website copy, integrating a key graphic, and helping the company re-think and define its mission. The website now reflects how the partners wish to portray their business.
Organized Office & Workflow
A tax accounting office needed a facelift,
to make it look a bit more more professional. We assessed priorities and I met with staff to understand their needs for space and storage. I found furniture that was small in scale and that
offered enough storage for the staff, and that contained appropriate cubbyholes for the office equipment. I added colorful accents by painting select components of the furniture, bringing in colorful glassware as organizing tools, choosing rugs, and selecting artwork. On an annual basis we evaluate the tax season, clients, and employees, and work through improvements to the office systems, processes, and technology adoption.
